“It’s one thing to take a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.” — Paul Caponigro
LEXY WILSON - aka My Mini, My Right Hand, My Bestie My Sister
This is Alexys. On June 23, 2005 I was blessed with a second younger sister, Alexys Keryn Wilson. She was so tiny and so light skinned that five year-old me honestly didn't believe that she was actually related to me. "Are you sure this is the right baby?" I blurted when I visited my mother in the hospital for the first time after Lexy was born. Fortunately, no mistakes were made and Lexy was all ours. Alexys is my best friend in the entire world. She has a positive outlook on life that I could only dream of and brings joy to everyone she meets. I can honestly say that when I go off to school this coming August, she will be the number one person that I will miss. I'm really not looking forward to being away from her. Lexy's portraits were taken in my bedroom, in front of my printed tapestry. It's really not the most Digital Photography conducive environment because of the background noise it creates, but Lexy insisted that she wanted to be in front of it. The main challenge I faced when it came to taking the photo was with the available lighting. My room is relatively dark, having only one dim light. I have painted my bedroom walls white and incorporated a lot of white furniture and decor to brighten it up, but getting a good photo is still quite difficult. As a result, I used the flash on my camera to add light to the picture. While there is an obvious glare coming from Lexy's glasses, I 1) Don't know how to edit that away and 2) It wouldn't be Lexy without her glasses, so I just decided to make the sacrifice. I think I did a pretty good job following the rule of thirds, though especially in the first photo and well as framing in both of the photos.
